Details: Although inequality and racial injustices have been given a long-overdue spotlight, communities are still suffering, including the AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) communities. AAPI people have faced a staggering increase of targeted hate incidents including violence and discrimination in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis because of our former president using Asians as a scapegoat for the pandemic. Statistics show that self-reported incidents of racism and hate crimes jumped from a cumulative 3,795 between March 2020 and February 2021 to 6,603 within just one month in March 2021 (source: Stop AAPI Hate).
Not only are these hate incidents themselves appalling and directly affect the people who experience the discrimination, but it also affects the overall mental health of the communities at large. Several studies (source: Stop AAPI Hate) suggest that Asian Americans are more stressed by anti-Asian hate than the pandemic itself. Furthermore, one in five Asian Americans who have experienced racism display long-term racial trauma, due to the psychological and emotional harm caused by the incidents.
In alignment with our Giving Back initiative, we want to help raise awareness of the racism faced by the Asian community through the sales of our pin.
100% of profits from this pin will be transparently donated to #HATEISAVIRUS which is a community of mobilizers and amplifiers dedicated to dismantling racism and other forms of hate. They participate in local and national campaigns to create a safe space for dialogue and education while providing actionable steps and funding partnerships with trusted community leaders and organizations. Their programs relate to mental health, community-based solutions for safety, representation, solidarity-building, and more.
